A quick update - a couple of days ago an actual IMDb employee (not just a devout fan of the weighted scoring system) responded to me on their community board saying that:
- They are aware of my post here (they are watching you!)
- The person who originally replied to me was not an employee, therefore was not speaking on behalf of IMDb, and has in fact been banned for violation of the community guidelines
- One can contact IMDb privately, however all they can say about ratings is covered in the extensive FAQ at https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/track-movies-tv/ratings-faq/G67Y87TFY... (of course, I had already contacted them privately and they had already provided the link to the FAQ)

So that's that then! Case closed :D
