There's a lot of debate about who should be the next Bond. But apparently, we can eliminate all women from the conversation now.
James Bond is one of the most famous characters of all time. He debuted in film in the 1960s and has spanned every decade since, with new actors bringing him to life.
Well, as Daniel Craig exits the role, many people wonder who will take on the next films in the series. There have been lots of debates on the subject. But the real people behind the decision are Barbara Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, who control the rights to Bond. Since No Time to Die earned solid reviews and has grossed $765 million worldwide (and counting), they need to make the right move to ensure ongoing success.
In her recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Broccoli said, “I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond."
She continued, explaining her position on the role and gender, “I believe in making characters for women and not just having women play men’s roles. I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make movies for women about women. He should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race].”
I think that settles the conversation, even if it seems like these roles should not be so rigid if they want to try something unique and fun. As far as directors go, they would love to have Fukunaga back, with Broccoli saying, “We love Cary. He’s done an exceptional job, I don’t have any idea whether he’d do another one. I think he did this because he wanted a challenge, and he sure pulled it off. But I’m not sure if he’d do another one. We’d love to work with him again.”
Time will tell who takes over both important Bond roles, but we'll have to take a moment to debate out who it should be in the comments.
Let us know who you think.
