Buying your first light kit

I'm a fairly young cinematographer in the field, and I've gotten to the point where I want my own light kit so I'm not always renting.

What light kits were your first as fellow DPs for freelancing and video work, and what would you recommend now?

A lot depends on what you want to shoot and where.

I shoot mainly daylight videos, so I switched over from Lowell Tungsten lights (that I still use from time to time) to shooting with 1x1 LED daylight lights. The key thing with LED lights is to look for lights with a high CRI rating. ( Color Rendering Index ) You want to ONLY buy lights with a CRI rating of 90 or higher.

Aputure make a range of very affordable LED lights with a CRI rating of 93 or higher...
