How to promote film on Facebook?
Let's say is an indie or student feature film with a great cinematography and talented [but not yet famous] actors and we need to get thousands of followers to share with them trailers, pictures, release dates, behind scenes and more.

I wrote a post on how to build an audience for your film that might be helpful: http://nofilmschool.com/boards/discussions/how-create-thousands-fans-you...
But have you looked into Facebook dark posts also called "unpublished posts", Diego?

I was just on your fb page - it tells me nearly nothing about the movie! The "About" page could have really drawn me in... instead, I know less about the project than when I started (ok, not quite.) Where is it being filmed? Have any of the actors been on screen before? What is the film about? The plot summary says less than nothing... do YOU know what the story line is? I wonder all these things when I check out the fb page. Why should I, or anyone else, be interested in a short that the producers can't describe? Tell me something about the project!

You must build your audience but NOT just only IN FACEBOOK , you must do it in your social media (include facebook)... the places that takes necessary.

Use Instagram (an fbook entity anyways) and Twitter for sure - the hashtag and its power, along with regular, timely content, are must haves in your arsenal. FOLLOW people. Have a dedicated person on your team to do this. It's marketing, which is something sorely lacking from us DIY film guys.

I would start with a 30 sec. teaser campaign or teaser trailer. On YouTube or Vimeo, it doesn't matter. Although movie teasers are usually made for big-budget, popular themes, their purpose is simply to let the audience know that the movie is coming soon to a theater near you, and to add extreme excitable hype for the upcoming release. Teaser trailers are usually made while the film is still in production or edited and they may feature alternate versions of scenes that are not in the finished film. Just an idea if you haven't already done so?

facebook is becoming more and more out of reach for films and other sorts of pages like that. They're bottlenecking. Twitter is a much better source to reach out to people. But you should absolutely have both going. Just direct them to your facebook page.
