Meet the 12 New Laowa Lenses For PL, EF, MFT & E-Mount Shooters

These are the lenses you're looking for.

Laowa has been on a tear announcing new lenses the last few years, with its 24mm marcro NFS reviewed being the most peculiar. A dozen more options have joined the fray, including flavors for cine, Micro Four Thirds (MFT), Sony E-mount, DJI drones, macro and more.

  • OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Lightweight Cine Zoom
  • 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine
  • 9mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine
  • 7.5mm T2.1 MFT Cine
  • 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 FE Zoom
  • 17mm f/1.8 MFT
  • 12mm f/1.8 MFT
  • 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D MFT
  • 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D DJI DL
  • 17mm f/4 Zero-D GFX

OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Lightweight Cine Zoom

The 25-100mm marks its first venture into cinema zoom lenses and features a fixed T2.9 aperture at all focal lengths. It covers only Super35 sensors but is packed with specs we want to see in a cine lens: a step-less t-stop, independent aperture ring, a smooth 270° focus rotation, and industry standard 0.8 mod /32 pitch gears. Optically, the design touts 20 elements in 16 groups with a 9 blade aperture that should produce a good bokeh. Maybe not as round as Canon's 11-blade cine primes, but we're not really comparing apples to apples here.

Laowa built this lens specifically for cine use so it's not just rehoused photography glass, claiming nearly zero focus breathing and truly parfocal, the latter meaning it will hold focus when you zoom in or out. The minimum focus distance is 23.6" (60cm) and it's fairly lightweight at 5.7lbs (2.6kg). The good news is that it will be available in PL and Canon EF. If you're wondering what "OOOM" is all about, it stands for "Out Of Our Minds".

Specs:

  • 25-100mm
  • T2.9 – T22
  • Super 35
  • Angle of View: 64°
  • 20 Elements in 16 Groups
  • 9 Aperture Blades
  • Min. Focus Distance: 2 feet/70cm
  • 5.7lbs (2.6kg)
  • PL and Canon EF

12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine PL

Unlike the 25-100mm, the 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine is a cine-mod version of its existing 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D lens. Venus Optics upgrade it with a step-less aperture and focus ring, standard 0.8 mod gears for iris and focus pulls and gave it a 270° focus throw. The most surprising thing is it covers the 35mm VistaVision sensor, offering a 122° angle of view and a minimum focusing distance of 0.6 feet (18cm). Since its part of the Zero-D line, we are expecting it to have close to zero distortion. The cine lens will be available in PL or Canon EF mount.

  • T2.9

The 9mm is available in Fuji X, Sony E, and Canon EF-M.
