In the end you still need some money and if not you need people who are willing to work for free. So unless you are fresh out of school or in your early 30s and have a bunch of friends who have nothing to do you are stuck with whatever camera or phone you may have shooting the beach or the foliage.

Not sure why this is even an article. Hollywood is a closed circle. A pipe dream, unless you're in the inner circle. Always has been.
If you happen to be that 1 in a million from the outer circle to make it in, living like Hollywood royalty will dry you up quickly.

Can we stop with these articles? Film festivals are for the majority a waste of money for the indie filmmaker.
Unless you have a hook-up or have a known cast you are not getting in.
Period. End of story.
Better off posting your work on YouTube more people will end up watching it.

Key factor here is "a group of friends" and whatever cash they had available.
Most filmmakers are alone.
