Short Film Release - Wait for the Bigger Festivals or Go Sooner?
Hi!
I was lucky enough to have my first very DIY short film screen at two festivals last fall. I just wrapped principle photography on my 2nd this week, and I feel like I've leveled up in every conceivable way. With that being said, now I'm not sure about how to proceed with a release strategy. Should I submit to those same festivals that I got into that run this fall? Or do I wait to submit to festivals like SXSW, Tribeca, etc. that run in the spring? With the real potential that they don't get into those, which pushes everything back by almost a year.

Listened to a podcast from an organizer of SXSW. And some other places. When it comes to shorts, festivals often don't require much. They can often be online, played at other festivals, and still be accepted to new ones. Shorts are more flexible than features in that regard. If I make a short that I'm in love with, I'll submit it to quite a few places and put it online. It's fine. ... then I need to move onto the next.
