Venus Optics Unveils the 'World's Widest Full Frame Zoom Lens'

Venus Optics adds not one, but TWO "world's first" to their stellar Laowa lens line.

If you're a full frame mirrorless shooter and a fan of Venus Optics' unique Laowa lenses, you're in for a treat. The camera lens manufacturer has unveiled two interesting pieces of glass, the Laowa 15mm f/2 Zero-D, which is the world's widest rectilinear f/2 lens, and the Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6, the world's widest full frame zoom lens.

Let's take a look at the features that make these two lenses worth some attention.

Laowa 15mm f/2 Zero-D

As stated before, Venus Optics claims this lens is the widest f/2 rectilinear lens for full frame mirrorless cameras (Sony FE, Nikon Z, Canon RF mounts). What does the "Zero-D" mean? Well, this lens is part of the Laowa lens line that offers close-to-zero distortion with a 110-degree angle of view.

The lens is small and lightweight at 3.23" long and 1.1 lbs. It features a close focusing distance (6" from the sensor), f/2 aperture that will allow you to capture some nice wide angle close-ups with plenty of bokeh.

And with a 5 straight blade aperture, you're going to be able to capture nice, sharp sunstars. Like the 15mm, this lens is also small and lightweight at 3.5" long and 1.1 lbs.

I'd rather shoot with the Nikon 13mm f/5.6. Not as fast, but impressively small distortion at 13mm gave it the 'Holy Grail' title.

Understandable. I shoot exclusively with Kubrick's NASA 50mm f/0.7, the corner resolution is impressive. "Accept no substitute!" I often say to everyone around me.

The 15mm f/2 has been pretty awesome to work with the last few months. Looks super flying with a gimbal.
