What do you think about my VFX ?

Hi,
i'm new in this forum. I'm reading the page for years but just now i decided to take part in the awesome community here.

I would love to get some feedback on my recreation of the Hologram effect from Star Wars.

Thanks in advance :)

Funny video. I find your hologram effect is too clean. It needs more random "noise" in the image.

Thanks, first i had a rgb shift effect built in and some distortions, but the render time was extreme :), First i thought it would be great if i shoot it in 4k, but my Notebook just can't handle the footage, especially with the effects applied.

The original hologram effect was very simple. They merely played a video tape (with subject in front of a black background) through a CRT TV and filmed it. The color, flicker, interference lines, noise etc. are all side effects of that process and are very hard to emulate by artificial means. Luckily for you, you can get a CRT for free these days. Also, the effect was "burned into" the background, no traveling matte. So essentially, simply "add" the foreground on top of the background rather than compositing using modern methods.

You can see how it was done more effectively on the Laserdisk version.

Stephen, thanks for the great source! I'll definitely look into it. They were pretty ingenious back then :)
