The talk of the festival just sold to Netflix.
Every year, a big title sells coming out of Sundance and immediately gets awards buzz. This year, Netflix made the priciest purchase. They shelled out $20 million for festival favorite, Fair Play.
The Chloe Domont-directed drama is about a husband and wife who work in finance. When one of them gets a coveted promotion over the other, things turn sinister. The film stars Eddie Marsan, Alden Ehrenreich, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rich Sommer.
According to Deadline, Fair Play was produced by T-Street’s Leopold Hughes and Ben LeClair, and Star Thrower Entertainment’s Tim White, Trevor White and Allan Mandelbaum. T-Street’s Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman are the exec producers.
This is obviously a huge deal for Domont, who has previously directed TV episodes of Billions, Suits, and Ballers. T-Street is fresh off making Glass Onion, which was nominated for an Academy award this morning.
This movie sounds fantastic, and we'll let you know more as it comes up.
Today's other big sale (per Deadline) is Flora and Son, which went to Apple for just under $20 million.
